The object I had in view was to elicit that diet, faulty in some way, had been a principal predisposing cause of beri-beri, whether or not the exciting cause I have named is the true one, and that its geographical range is not defined within certain parallels of latitude and longitude, but that anasarcous disease will prevail in any race (I might almost add any climate ; for what is scurvy but the effect of mal-nutrition ?) wherein the minimu mvariation in diet obtains.
